But that costs nearly as much as just finding a better car to begin with.
I have a feeling many are only interested in the 'show' and not at all interested in the 'go'.
Agreed. But maybe I'd change wear and tear items anyway no matter what they looked like. At least I'd know how old they were.

Looks a nice car and I like the colour, but it is a bit pricey?

The dealer is looking to make national average salary on this car, as it stands, IMO.

The twin of the car (with many less miles) was sold for £35,000 less than the asking just a couple of weeks ago which you have to presume the dealer knows, so would have bought it for less than that.

I would guess the dealer paid around £40k maximum for this car, but probably less.

i would like one, i would just buy one done, but not at this price, even though i do think it looks right, even the colour has appeal, even though its not red.
My personal opinion is, and this is only mine, its only worth as much as the original car, so id only want to pay 18 ish tops, for all the reasons you have mentioned, its a who knows what car underneath, with a fancy frock on.

oh boy do they have some beauties on their site for sale, 2 bugatis at 1.8million each hahaha wow.

What would make someone pay £78K for a dressed up Z3? I have no idea how much these cost to build but the idea of running around in a 2.8 BMW with Ferrari on the cam cover is a little embarrassing !

They are expensive to build.
Everyone has their own reasons for doing whatever they do. Personally I wanted to build one for several reasons, not least the challenge, but mainly because I think the 250 california is the most beautiful car ever made and I can't afford a real one. So this is the nearest I can get.

I would not own a Z3 if I wasn't changing it, as I really don't like them. I think they are fugly little things. But ETTO and we are all different, which is a good thing IMO.

. . .
. . .
They can be.

But it's also possible to do it on a shoestring if you can do it yourself so don't include your ManHours in the cost.

Don't even count the hours otherwise you'll be kicking yourself round the workshop for ever being stupid enough to start.

Don't know about that - it's all just harmless fun. Not harming anyone etc.

Badges - I've got BMW written all over mine and putting a Z3 badge on the back in case anyone wonders what it is.

I must be doing it all wrong, then. Mine is costing a fortune and I haven't included the hundreds and hundreds of hours of my time.

It may have been he who bought it. It is a new car on his website. It's still BMW Z3 on the MOT forms. I wonder if it is the same on the V5C.

You could make one for around £25k - £30k, if you don't have to mess about with mistakes, and don't pay for any labour.

and here's another

https://www.carandclassic.com/it/aste/2001-bmw-z3-30-ferrari-250-california-evocation-nvqdag

Strange look to the interior where the original centre console has been kept as well as most of the dash with the binnacle replaced with ferrero-esq pods

But buyer of this one's a cheapskate - only 45 grand.
I prefer this one. I like the red roof, and the dashboard is well designed around the original centre console.

Why don't they spend as much time tidying up the engine as they spend on the other bits? It really shows that they think the people who buy these are only interested in what it looks like with its clothes on.

You will still have the hassle and cost of importing it from South Africa.

I admire the work people put into these, I certainly don't have the patience, but surely the first part of the build is getting the running gear perfect before you buy and install the fakery. I would anyway. I don't see the point point in having a great looking car that drives like a piece of sh***. 🤷‍♂️
