Taking every opportunity to get out when the sun is shining we went for lunch and drove over the hills before calling at Ye Old Cheshire Cheese, Longnor for a drink. While standing waiting at the bar I was suddenly viciously bitten in the back of my ankle by a nasty dog. Trip out cut short and off to A&E where the wound was cleaned as the dog's teeth had penetrated my achilles tendon. Iodine dressing to be replaced every two days for a week and a course of antibiotics. The dog's owners showed no real concern and in fact the female partner seemed to be affronted that I should

Completely unacceptable and that’s coming from someone who’s owned 4 of them

Like I say @MuttyMax , not the dog's fault. I like dogs, had lot's of different dogs during my life, but none bit anybody because I looked after them and made sure they were in my control especially when in a public place. I was at the bar asking to look at a menu when the couple came in the pub. The dog, on a lead, immediately tried to attack a dog under a table which was with a couple near the door. It was snarling and obviously very aggressive, but as it was on a lead I took little notice assuming the owner would control it. Suddenly I heard a snarling growl and felt excruciating pain in the back of my ankle. After the attack the couple went to sit outside so why didn't one go to the table outside with the dog while the other collected their drinks? 🤷‍♂️

That's awful Ken. My son got bitten by a dog on a doorstep last month, it's awful.

I grew up with German Shepherds, best dogs in the world. Have to train them, no option. We're having a problem with noisy dogs atm, one in particular, like you say it's the owners fault . . .

But that's horrible, hope you're okay . . .

They are in the wrong and I have seen the police called a few years ago when a little dog tied up outside a play park attacked a small child. It always seems to be small dogs that the owners seem to think don't need training that are the worst. As you say German Shepherds must be trained and as you also say are the best dogs in the world and great companions and very gentle if a bit clumsy. But they do have big feet:D . I hope you are okay and as the owners weren't apologetic I would have called the Police.

The dog that bit me looked like a French Bulldog, not too big , but it sunk it's teeth in my achilles tendon! Very painful.

Z Victor 1, sorry to hear this and hope you have a speedy recovery. This website spells it all out. The owners of the dog could have been in some trouble if you had the mind to pursue them - not easy though when your ankle is on fire!

Pity you did not have a weapon to club the thing to death! At least in the USA you could have drawn your pistol and shot it . . .

This is awful, Ken. I do hope your ankle is feeling a little less painful today @Z Victor 1
Others are right: you could have called the police. It's hard to know at the time what to do, though, especially after having been attacked by an uncontrolled dog. I am wishing you a speedy recovery.

this should be reported and possibly the dog needing a muzzle when out.
If he reported it the owner would likely get done for "Having a dog dangerously out of control". And, dog drew blood so would've been put down.

It's the owners who should be put down.

Here's a dog dangerously out of control

As I said, the owners to blame not the dog. If I had realized what the injury was at the time I would probably have reported it and photographed the offenders, but I suppose I was just shocked.

So you were standing there, minding your own business, and a random dog just came up and took a chunk out of your ankle?
I find that extremely odd.
Either you were wearing meat socks or that dog was a psychopath and needs putting down immediately.

If it wasn't a modern right-of-passage for everyone to take their bloody mutts into pubs, reataurants and hotels these days it would never have happened. I have a fantastic, well behaved retriever who I love to bits, but I would NEVER take her into a pub or hotel. It just isn't right IMHO.

If our dog is not allowed into a pub or restaurant, we don't go, simple. Lots of like minded people around. :)

I wouldn't take my dog into a proper restaurant. In fact I always assumed there was a law against it.

But a good ol english pub, I don't see what the problem is. My dog, lying under my table, is likely cleaner than the drunk lying under the other table hugging the spitoon.

Not every person likes dogs. This is a fact often overlooked.
