Exhaust

Any suggestions, I’m looking to fit a super sprint cat back to me z3 2.8.
The front of the exhaust including cat is new, so the only bit of rust/old exhaust will be the silencer box circled in the attached (assuming that’s what it is).
what are my options? Find a good-nick secondhand one and fit it when I do the super sprint.
Or can I do away with it all together, or will it be too noise?
or not worry, fit the super sprint and wait for it to fail?

I am not 100% sure on what I say, but this is supposed to be more of a resonator and less of a silencer.
Better be sure about what it does, or else you may end with a very disturbing noise from the exhaust.
or not, if you are into that stuff...

That’s my concern not 100% what it’s there for.
not looking for a thundering loud exhaust.

i made my own, and replaced all of what you pictured. I have a generic straight through system from the cat back.
its not noisy, its quite a sweet deep sound, but i do have a drone at 60mph which is annoying.

that picture of the circled part is indeed a resonator, and they are complete 1pc unit with the rest of exhaust.

pic of mine before/ after.. although when fitted to car i added a twin outlet to make it more stock appearing
