Fitting a new radio unit with screen

Hello,
So in September 2026 I’ll be covering some 3000 miles on a road trip from UK to Italy in my Z3 3.0.
Thinking about upgrading the stereo, it’s already got a non factory original (I am keeping the car as original as I can) so don’t mind keeping this part non original.
The head unit I’m looking at is the Pioneer AVH-Z7200DAB (link below). Not cheap by any means, but apple car play, maps etc will be well received on this European tour.
Has anyone fitted this already to their Z3?
Or any words of wisdom before I purchase?

Thanks in advance,
David

I fitted similar for a while.. mine didn’t fold away, does yours ?. The quality of the sound was excellent compared to the more period looking blaupunkt I have now. They use decent MOSFET amps. No outward facing USB for charging or wired CarPlay so had to make that little connector in the blank on the dash. Not an issue if it has wireless carplay. Finally most pioneers have a handbrake signal wire to stop you watching movies whilst driving etc .. I got an emulator wired in so didn’t have to do that.

Thanks AntStark for the reply. Yes the one I'm looking at has a motorised screen which comes out and goes back in. My existing alpine unit has a dab antennae and microphone, sp hoping I can keep the existing dab antennae and microphone and connect up to the new pioneer unit. Presumably the connections will be common amongst different brands?

The Dab connector and the mic are likely the same. Assume you have an adapter between the bmw connector and the iso connectors already..ie you haven’t butchered the wires 🙂
