Unfortunately, for me, it is time to pass on this classic as I’m really not using it enough and it has turned into a garage queen.
I owned a 2.8 Z3 and yearned for the M so spent a long time (with a car mechanic friend) looking for the right M Roadster. After checking out about 4, we viewed this one at a sports car specialist company in Sussex where it had been in storage. We agreed that this one was the best, so I purchased in June 2020.
The mileage at purchase was approximately 67k - June 2020 MOT shows a recorded mileage of 66763. Last MOT on 31/05/2024 recorded 72506 miles. I have just taxed from April 1st 2025 where the mileage was 72968. That works out to just over 1000 miles a year!
During that time I have only used it during Summer, the rest of the time it sits under a cover in my garage.
Apart from the usual ongoing maintenance (oil/filter/brakes etc) it had a suspension rebuild. New bushes, clutch, gearbox pins, brakes, tank straps, notorious seat bushes replaced and other bits at the renowned Zedshed, by Lee, Gazza, Trev and others. The work they did, plus the addition of lowering springs and wheel spacers, not only transformed the handling but makes the car look like it means business. Since the rebuild it has been back for servicing and oil/filter changes. Below is a link to the site where the work is detailed.

Other work carried out prior to my ownership was a Vanos rebuild, new water pump and drive belts at 66000 miles. Prior to visiting the Zedshed, I became disappointed with the general ride - it didn’t feel positive so I had the lower steering column, lower steering assembly, lower suspension arm plus bushes replaced by my local BMW specialist. This improved the drive somewhat but, after the Zedshed suspension refurb, the car now sits rock solid on the road and is an absolute pleasure to drive.
In addition to all the above, I have changed the following:
The headlight units for ones with angel eyes.
Front grill to a black one featuring the M colours.
Weighted M gear knob.
Handbrake and gearstick gaiter with M colours.
Flat bottomed and extra padded steering wheel from Royal Steering Wheels.
The originals will come with the car as will a BMW genuine mesh wind deflector, tonneau cover, rear window protector (for use when the manual roof is down) PLUS (still boxed) a genuine BMW spare zip in rear window.
If that wasn’t enough(!),it comes with the hard top . I drove the car with this on after picking it up from the garage but since then, it has been hanging in a hard top cover in my garage.
Paintwork – there are a few age related marks. However, I had it detailed and a 2 year ceramic coating applied in October 2024.
2 keys but remote locking not working – central locking all works.
Located in Hampshire between Winchester and Southampton.
Price is £20,000.
I am in no hurry to sell as it will be stored if not sold. This has to be one of the better/ best examples of this future classic.

#ZedShed - Bills Black Beauty Z3M (Gearbox & Subframe)
Next in the shed is a stunner, a very rarely seen black Z3M. @BillH We’re sure we’ve seen this car before the plate looks familiar. Anyway we started off doing the seat bushes at the same time we did Boisie’s and found they had been done before but the blocks were a loose fit. Here she is...
