When I own both my BMW'S. I often had problems with the batteries running down to nothing. If I didn't use the car for a few weeks the battery would be dead. Currently I have a 1995 Honda del Sol that has the same problem. I decided to add a battery cut off switch to stop the leaking of power from the battery when the car was not being used. I installed the cut off switch and intended to test it in about a month or two but it turned out that I haven't touched the car for what seems now when I think about it to be about 6 or seven months. It was a brand new battery when I installed the switch. There are pictures of the cut off switch before and after it is installed. The video will show the result of the installation......... Frankie.

Is switching the Earth a good idea in principle? Normally switch the Power line. It is a solution to a problem I didn't know I had tbh. Do any of the ECU's require 12v from the battery to retain memory though ?

Somebody more knowledgeable than me will be along in a minute to correct me I'm sure . . . !

Do you still have a zed Frankie?
No. If you remember, I had the Z3M///. I had t o sell it because when I used the clutch pedal, the foo t rest rubbed against the edge of my foot and created a blister which got infected and I almost lost the left part of my foot. It took over a year to heal. But that car always died if I didn't use it for 3 or 4 weeks and had to get out the battery charger every time. I know the clock used electric but what else was using power? It's the same thing with this 95 honda civic del sol. Don't use it for 3 or 4 weekw ane your battery is almost if not completely dead. Not anymore.................Frankie

It makes no difference witch one you switch, Switching the negative is safer on a negative earth car and this instance though, the positive post is still protected from short to earth that way, unless you protect the breaker and positive switch. Either way the circuit is broken and the car is dead, ;) , re-code your radio and reset the clock, plus any other issues it may cause.. I personally would be investigating the parasitic drain, going flat so quickly cant be right..
