Sept and October can be decent months in Scotland for weather plus accommodation is cheaper. But midges can ruin a trip to the West and far North if you plan to be outdoors and are not prepared. If its damp and humid early morning and late in the day are the times to stay indoors. The locals use an Avon product call 'skin so soft'. Smoking a pipe also helps if thats your thing. I carry a very fine mesh hood when fishing, its impossible to be outdoors for any length of time without one. Pack tight clothes, long sleeves and thin gloves. If you have any bare skin they will find it. The females are the ones that bite and when you kill one that attracts more to what is for them a giant sex party with you as the last meal, so try and not swat them to the point of killing them.....
