Oil Filter Cap Removal Tool for M52B28

half way through an oil change and I can't believe how unbelievably tight the filter housing is!

Last oil change was done by a garage, so God knows what they torqued it up to, but even with the airbox out and a decent strap wrench, it's not having it!

Does anyone know a source for the correct tool? It measures around 90mm across flats and has 14 flats. I can't seem to find one???

Does your have the plastic nut in the middle? I think I just use a standard 36mm socket on mine.

it does, but the corners started to go when I tried a socket. That's why I resorted to a strap wrench, and just couldn't quite get enough grip with that, even round the main body. It's effin' tight! I'm hoping I'll find an aluminium tool rather than one of the pressed steel types, but just can't seem to find the right one.

Can you get the strap and socket on at same time and apply torque to both ( also try a 6 point socket if you are currently using a 12 point ) once cracked it will probably come off no problem.

I can confirm it is definitely 36mm

6 point socket is a very good idea

They have an O-ring and dont leak so mine only goes on just over hand tight. And they are still stiff to remove when it comes time to change the filter.

If you haven't drained the oil try getting the engine up to temperature, everything expands when you warm it up.

A 6 point socket will not round the corners because of the increased surface area of the facets.

It was hot when I started, but the oiled had drained by the time I was struggling. The 36mm on the top had already suffered at the hands of someone previously, and you could feel it trying to lift & slip with a breaker bar, before enough could be applied.

Panic over, remembered I had one of these at work, but can't remember why I had it as I don't do mechanical stuff.

The problem with my other strap wrench was it would ultimately slip, but this cranked up tight did actually grip it.

Jeez it was tight though. Must be the slowest oil change in history, glad I'm not paying me by the hour!
