My experience has been that when properly installed and adjusted per the BMW manual the hard top works very well, it does have to be adjusted to perfection though.
I use my Hard Top in the winter and late summer just before it gets colder here in Phoenix and have no issues.

Used to love mine, tightens up the car and really quietens down the inside. Your HT might need some adjusting.

Hardtop on or just the soft top I’m not sure many Z’s will withstand 38 days of continuous rainfall!

Work great, bit of a bugger when the sun comes out though.

Will have to look at trying to adjust.

It gets cold in Phoenix? ;)

Gummiphlege tge rubbers before fitting and put a dab of black sealant over the corners where it meets the A Pillars and good to go

That's where mine lets water. I assume that it is a problem with the hardtop rather than the A pillar because the hood doesn't leak. Gummiflege is a good idea and I think I still have some somewhere...

Check the alignment.

The vertical edge of the roof in this picture has to be exactly in line with the vertical body panel below it.

At the front edge of the roof it needs to be sitting right down snug on the rubber trim behind the windscreen. This isn't a good picture but you see the roof to the left and windscreen sloping down to the right and the snug fit.

If the roof isn't fitting snug then it'll leak and maybe even wind noise.

As others have said as long as the triangle roof bungs aren't split and seals good it shouldn't leak.
The hardtop on our silver zed has only been off once in the last 2 yrs and that was at a show but bar that sits outside in everything that South west Scotland can throw at it and doesn't leak a drop.

Stephen.
